Our Mission

Ubykh had 84 consonants, one of the richest sound systems ever recorded, and no one has spoken it as a mother tongue since 1992. The exile of 1864 took our land; the loss of our last speaker took the everyday thread that carried the language from one generation to the next.

ubykh.org is where that thread gets picked back up. A dictionary you can hear and speak back to, the history behind the words, and a place for Ubykh people to find each other. Not a museum. A way back in.
